Battlefield Terminology

Prepare for battle...

2.I.C: Stands for Second in Command.

Battle Box: A unit which can re-spawn, re-supply ammo or act as a repeater station. Also see Medic Box.

Citations: An award or recognition for feats performed during a game of Battlefield LIVE. Usually awarded to veteran gamers.

C.O.: C. O. stands for Commanding Officer, this is the person in charge of running the game. Usually the person running the show is referred to as C.O + their AKA, e.g. C.O. Siren.

De-activations: When in “Laser Tag” mode, after you have tagged someone to use up all their lives, you de-activate them. Also see kills.

Enlistment officer: The person who registers gamers to each session, i.e. the person who takes the money (also Rego Officer, or Registration Officer).

Gaming guns: A ‘model’ gun that shoots infrared light to simulate bullets. Models vary from compact sub machine guns to long range sniper rifles. SATR enabled gaming guns feature a data radio system as well as infrared.

Hits: When the sensor registers it has been tagged. H = Hits on the Display. Also see Tags.

Hit Points: How many times a gamer needs to be hit before entertain a “dead” state.

Infrared: A type of light which is invisible and harmless.

Intel: An abbreviation for intelligence, especially for military or business; information.

Kills: Once all the hit points have been used up, the sensor will register a Kill. For example, say your opponent has 5 lives, and you shoot them 5 times, your display with show 4 H 1 K. Also see de-activations.

Live gaming: A new breed of games, a cross between sport and active entertainment, like a live computer game.

Live Play briefing: A summary of the objectives and scenario in the game given to the gamers. In advanced missions each team may receive different briefings.

Medic Box: A unit which can re-spawn dead gaming guns. This unit is often configured as a “Combo Box”. A Combo Box provides ammunition and re-spawns. Also see Battle Box.

Re-spawn: A term borrowed from computer gaming lingo, means when a gamer ‘dies’ in the game i.e. they’ve lost all their Hit Points and then they are brought back to life and play on. This action is usually done by a Battle Box (medic box) but can also be done with a key. Also see re-activations.

Re-spawn limits: The maximum number of re-spawns a team can have during a Live Play.

Tags: When using the “Laser Tag” settings the word Tags is used instead of Hits. This is where the sensor has registered it has been hit. When in “Laser Tag” mode the display will show T = Tag.

Veterans: Gamers who have played Battlefield LIVE more than 20 times.

Victory conditions: What a team must do to win a Live Play.
